I have a blackberry pearl do I HAVE to get a data service?

verizon says that I have to as detailed by RIM and not by verizon. is this true? it's an additional $30/month!

yes.. i have tmobile and i dont pay anything for RIM.

You have to for ANY carrier, if you wanna use all the special stuff.... Data plan.... True of all pda/smart phones.

You can use a blackberry without a data plan on Tmobile. You only get phone and SMS. I would think RIM would have this agreement with all carriers if it is actually a RIM requirement.

Yes.  That is the contract that Verizon has with RIM.  I don't know how the other companies can do it without it.

I was told by two VZW customer service reps that you could opt to basically "pay as you use", and by two others that it is required!  Tmobile does not require data service.  I am going back to the store tomorrow to find out who is right.
