I have a bmx 200cc atv and it starts up and when i put it into first gear it wont run what could it be?

if its chain driven check the sprockets... happened to my dirt bike it ran fine but when i put it into gear the engine tried to move but couldn't because my sprockets were loose... if it seems o.k. you may have a transmission problem...

if you put it into gear and it just makes noise and doesn't move you may have broke the teeth on a gear... i would check it with a shop if none of this is the problem...
