Question:

I have a boiler in my attic that just heats the water for my bath and shower - the hot water has stopped.?

I have a combi boiler that covers the heating and the hot water downstairs and sink upstairs but for reasons of water pressure (lack of) we put a separate tank in to provide hot water for the shower and bath. In the last couple of days there is no hot water. Any ideas for the reason for this. There is a switch outside the bathroom which I was told was to turn on and off the hot water which we keep on constantly as we dont have the time to wait for it to heat up.

Please help as I dont want to be taken for an idiot by plumber.

Thanks

  1. Possibly loss of electric mains supply to your attic boiler, such as through an electric fuse failing or circuit breaker tripping. Your first check therefore needs to be to the mains input to see if there is a voltage present there or not. If you measure it between terminals and find there is a voltage then problem is inside boiler circuitry, and may be mechanical or electrical.

  2. Your Wife shouldn't be in the attic but if the water has stopped I expect she's nodded off . . .

  3. I would say that the tank in the roof is fitted with an immersion heater that has gone faulty, or maybe the thermostat that is fitted in the Emerson heater. It is not a hard job to fit either, but to fit the immersion heater you may have to drain the tank,or cylinder.
