How can I locate cemetary where he was buried and get a picture of his grave site long distance w/o going to Colorado? I live in Dayton, OHIO. Any genealogists in the answering public? Need this to update our family tree pkg as he was left out of the first family tree pkg.

  1. I looked at the link that John A listed and found out one of the 3 cemeteries in Brighton, Colorado is a veterans cemetery, and the other 2 are named ELMWOOD and FAIRVIEW. I then went to www.findagrave.com and looked to see if he was shown on that site at either of those cemeteries. Elmwood had 158 listings (no one named Ruud), and the other has 3 listings (not shown there either). Of course, people have to submit the information to the website for others to find (for instance, I put my grandparents' information there), and then they can leave "virtual flowers and messages" to their family members, etc. and you can add pictures, as well.

  2. There are three cemeteries in Brighton, Co.  The link below shows you the info.  You should be able to search them, or ask a volunteer by email to help.

One reason that genealogists help others, is that we all believe that giving, is returned somewhere along the line. The above is a website of folks who do just this kind of thing.

Even beyond that.. I know of some county sites (usgenweb is a volunteer network) where persons photograph stones in their own county and make them available to family.  If you have research in Wise co, Texas, it is THE BEST site on the web.

I'd start with the website above. You might also edit this question to include his name.. it is possible one of the people here can find the record for you, if they can't offer the photo.

3rd option.. use google to locate a list of mortuaries in Brighton.  Explain what you need, and ask if they will help with name and phone listings for the main cemeteries. The cemetery offices should be able to check their files for you, perhaps even while you are on the phone.
