Its a beautiful brown wooden coffee table with sections of glass in the center, its very unique but doesnt go with my new couch and other furniture. Is there any way I can polish it a nice black color? I dont want to spray paint it as that will hide the wood. Any recommendations?

  1. Make sure it's not particle board or MDF with veneer. These cannot be restained.

  2. I agree.  If you really like it and want to do it the right way, it neads to be either stripped and sanded or just sanded down (depending on what finish/stain is on there now).

Then, you would get the dark stain and go to work, and finish with a clear coat if you want a little sheen.

  3. Strip the finish, restain it ebony and revarnish it.

  4. You would need to strip, sand and stain it and then apply the finish coat again.  Talk to someone at your local paint or hardware store and then decide whether you want to do that.
