  1. If your central airconditioning unit stops working or malfunctions and you live in an apartment, you first check the circuit breaker box and reset any breaks marked A/C or FURNACE and if still not working, then you call Bldg Maintenance bec you are a tenant and the landlord/property manager needs to send maintenance to fix...but then you do have to wait in line of course.

    Hope the Above Info Helps!

  2. do just what patric said to do.he's spot on it

  3. Albeit basic but the following could be the problem:

    1. Make sure you have 115 volts power at the outlet or plug.

    2. If you have power, then try placing the thermostat in "Fan Only" mode and when you do that, you should hear the relay switch or click and then  the fan should come on.

    3. If the fan comes on, then you may have a defective thermostat while attempting to run it in the Cool mode.

4.If the fan still does not come on after hearing the relay switch, then you could have a bad motor or the run capacitor could be defective.

What ever the case, you'll need to call an a/c person out. And depending on where you live, the repair can cost between 150-275-no more than 350

  4. You did not mention the voltage. Most A/C units are 220vac. You will have a power feed from a breaker (is it tripped?). There is also a fuse able disconnect at the unit, could have a blown fuse there. You didn't mention if there is any power at the unit, any display? You could also have a transformer out that converts 110vac to 24 vac for the thermostat.

and yes you should have someone look at it.
