I have a buffalo WHR-G54S?

i run vista on my laptop wifi

problem:

it starts at 54Mbps and lowers by the minute until it becomes a single digit. I can't seem to use WEP or any other kind of protection. Whenever i do, vista becomes incompatible with the router and fails to connect unless I restart the router, which causes the encryption to be lost.

1, why does my router lose speed?

2. Any way to encrypt my router?
