I have a business meeting in Barcelona on March 13, I want to drive through Spain from March 1st. Suggestions?

Along the way, my wife and I would like to stop for 3 days at a luxury resort. We have never been to Spain before. We prefer staying at 4-5 star hotels along the way, but food is not an important item for us.

if it was me, i'd fly to seville. stay one night at the alfonso xiii - very expensive, very very nice!!

then head east to antequera,  granada, across the edge of the sierra nevada, up through murcia to alicante, then follow the coast north to valencia, and then up to barcelona.

stay fro three days in barcelona. it is beautiful, cosmopolitan and has great restaurants and hotels.

the whole journey is only about 1000 km, so you could do just 200km a day and take it really easy.

look the route up on google earth first, that's what i just did. it will tell you the mileage and how long to drive it, plus it will show you hotels, restaurants etc all along the route.

one bit of advice from me is that spain is fantastic, but you won't really see it if you stay in expensive hotels every night. try and do one or two nights a bit more down market - otherwise your trip will be the same as cardiff to london, but hotter.

Ahh, skip the Sangria, anyways...it's just cheap bad wine for the tourists, almost guaranteed to give you a headache.  Stick to the good stuff: Sherries, Tintos, and Cavas.  Ask the bartender what to recommend.

I had a great time around Barcelona...We went to Tarragona: great Roman Ruins.  Figueres was cool for the Dalí museum, and Girona was a really great medieval town.  I missed Cadaqués, which I really wanted to do, and we were planning to go to the French border, just to have a snack...but since the rental car didn´t come through (long story), we dídn´t have time for it.  Valencia is pretty special...they´re planning the America´s Cup race there, I can´t remember when, but that´s a big deal.  They have this HUGE new Aquarium there.  It´s worth going just to check out the architecture, all designed by Calatrava - he´s like, the premier architect in Spain these days.  If you think you have time, there´s all the mountain towns there, and wineries and the Cavas (cava is Spanish Champagne), if you´re of a mind to tour one of them.  Teruel isn´t too terribly far from Barcelona.  A town full of these Mudéjar towers that all have ceramic tiles on them in green and white.  (check out websites.   See if it´s anything that interests you.)  

As for 4 - 5 star hotels...you should be able to find a few.  The National Paradors are lovely, and there´s one near Barcelona, along the Costa Brava, I think, that´s highly recommended.  They are nationally run hotels.  They have a website.  I´ll see if I can´t find it.

I suggest you drive further South and spend a few days around La Manga,

look it up, I'm sure you will be impressed,by the way,Spain isnt that hot in March so it isnt all sand sea an sangria

Where is your arrival point in Spain?

To suggest a route, it is best to know where you are starting from....

If it's Barcelona you can drive to Madrid in a few hours and enjoy a visit to the fantastic museums (El Prado, Thyssen and/or The reina Sofía). Stay a day or two. There are several excellent hotels along the Gran Vía (which is one of the main streets, and within walking distance from most interesting sights, monuments and museums). From Madrid drive back either via Zaragoza or head towards the coast of Valencia and then back north. There is a luxury resort with spas, and other additions near Oropesa del Mar, Castellon (north of Valencia) It's called Marina D'Or (has it's own website, so you can check it out). All the suggestions in the other answers are also valid... It all depends on your taste...

You don't say where you're coming from and Barcelona is only a few hours South from the border.
