  1. Hello Marion,

In my experience, the most cost effective way is via Holyhead, and this will mean, driving to Holyhead, using the British Motorways, please don't be fooled into thinking that the A5 turn off in Staffordshire is a good short road through to Holyhead, as, it is a treacherous road with a lot of hill climbing to drive your Camper-van over, far better you continue on the M6 to Jct 19,** here you will see your signs for North Wales, and turn yourself left onto the M56, and follow that until you reach the M53 turnoff, which will take you onto the A55, this will carry you to the A5 and onto the isle of Anglesey. you notice the  ** after where I wrote Jct. 19 on the M6.  this is where you should begin to follow all the signs for North Wales. and follow them from where you see the North Wales signs when you reach the A55 too. OK I admit this is not the cheapest way to Dublin, but it is most definitely the safest.

OK, now let's deal with the cheapest way from where you live, in the answer you are seeking......

Drive your Camper-van from your home using the way you know from there to the M4, and then drive west on the M4 all the way to its end, in west Wales, and pick up the A48, FOLLOW THIS ROAD ONTO THE A40, following all the signs for the Ferry-port at Fishguard, the ferry will take you into Rosslare Harbour, exit Rosslare, and take the N25 which will run you directly onto the N11 which will take you directly onto Dublin....local maps will take you to where you need to be...

Milage' London to Fishguard, is 261 miles.

                       Rosslare to Dublin,.....is  80  miles.

total distance to drive is  341 miles.

Well Marion I hope this helps you out and that you enjoy your trip to Dublin, and this from a retired Euro truck driver of 40 years in the trade, Enjoy, and don't forget to stop every 2 hours, so you don't become too tired to love the trip......Bye...Tony M

  2. The Shortest Route, and therefore less petrol and cheaper, from Green Flag Route Planner is to sail from Holyhead. You can also sail from Fishguard in South Wales but not sure what is Cheapest

  3. Check Norse Ferries. (norfolk line) They run between Liverpool and Dublin overnight. Book a cabin and sleep the boring 8hr trip. You have all day to drive to Liverpool from Sussex. 300 miles? Board about 9pm and go straight to the cabin. Bring sleeping bags if more than two in your company. Sleep all night. Land about 6am while Dublin is still asleep. The day crossing is utterly no-no.
