I have a can of bear spray, and it says something on the can that i don't understand, click on this question!

it says "there is no guaranteed methond of responding to a bear encounter" what does that mean?

It means if you use the spray, but still get attacked and mauled by a bear, you cant bring a civil litigation against them.

Like many things in life there are few guaranties.  That's why the say there is no such thing as an effective shark repellent.  same is true of bear repellent.  You might as well get a can of mace or pepper spray.

Simply that you should not rely on it to scare a bear away. Some bears are more aggressive and will continue to attack. The best way to avoid an attack is to put all food in bear proof containers, stay on marked trails, leave quickly if you see a bear or bear cubs, and heed any warnings that might be posted about bear sightings, attacks etc.

it means each bear is different in terms of whether it really wants to attack you are not.Let's say a bear approaches you and wants to attack you but you spray it well then it might run off because it figures your not worth fighting.However if you met another bear a while later and it had cubs or something than it may be on a mission to kill you and it's not going to let spray get in its way
