I have a candle sconce lantern and i want to know if it would look right on the wall above my kitchen table?

  1. You can put lantern sconces anywhere you want.  There are no rules.  Whatever appeals to your eye is what matters.

As a professional kitchen designer, I can tell you that proper lighting is too often overlooked in projects.  What you typically want above your kitchen table is really good task lighting on a dimmer switch.  Most kitchen tables get used not just for eating, but for homework, meal planning, newspaper reading and other tasks.  (The dimmer makes romantic dinners and midnight snacks more doable.)  I'm not overly confident that a wall sconce will meet those needs, especially if it shines up, not down.  I'd suggest using what sounds like a lovely fixture elsewhere in your home, and looking for a hanging light for above your table.

  3. I am a decorator and would tell you that a wall sconce lantern is fine to use as long as it is not the only thing decorative on the wall.

    Think in terms of what would compliment it and make it look balanced on the wall. Also if it sticks to much it could cause a traffic problem.
