I know it is hard to diagnose a car problem without looking at the car itself and that asking on here is a stretch. His check engine light came on today and we hooked a code reader into the car. It came up with P1607, and the description it came up with made no sense so I googled it. I found out that it means Powertrain Control Module Internal Circuit Failure. He took it to Discount Auto Parts and they can't figure out what it means. Any ideas will be much appreciated. Also please no useless answers thanks.

  1. ive nenver had that come up with my integra. go to team-integra.net and search around to get more help. its a very useful site to integra owners =]

  2. We may not get  get a better tack to take with "PCM internal circuit failure"- you know, that sounds like take out the PCM and replace it, then hope there's nothing else wrong that'll pop the new one. At least you have the code to ask at a qualified shop about. Look for this PCM in Chiltons auto repair manual and see if it's a little $100 thing that slips in and out like a fuse or if it's buried somewhere it'll take $500 labor to get to before it can even be removed. Trip to the public library and get your hands on the Chiltons foreign car repair manual covering your make and year. Hopefully you can cut this job down to size, maybe DIY and not spend too much. If it's too much , bite the bullet and take it to Honda. You'll get best quality parts there anyway. Good luck.

  3. sorry dont know but call the dealership maybe they will tell you or go to some j*p racin fourms where kids have these j*p cars and they know alot excpessially if its a common code but check all the fuses and everything cause that could cause a failure in the circut but im sure you already did that if not its very easy just find the fuse box and test all of them

  4. If I'm not mistaken, PCM is controlled by the Engine control module. So the circuit in the ECM for the PCM is prbably damaged. So basically it is a computer problem for the engine.

  5. I don't know too much about newer cars but I would guess that would have something to do with one of the computers in the car. I'd say it was the transmission control unit but I'd think they'd refer to that as drivetrain if anything since drivetrain is the transmission and powertrain is the engine and transmission as far as I know.

However at least I can simplify the last part, internal circuit failure = short circuit.
