  1. You must spray the chemical(( BEE-SPRAY---RAID)))))directly at the beehive so that the spray will have direct contact with the insects, making it more effective. The best time to spray the hive is at night, when all the bees are there. You can also spray during the day when most of them are out looking for nectar. Make sure you are wearing thick clothing to protect you from bee stings. Sweaters or long-sleeved thick shirts will do fine. Wear thick denim pants to protect your legs.

Make sure to kill the bees in their nest by spraying insecticide again the next day.   and WD-40  is good to.

  2. The female bores the nest, inserts an egg and guards the nest.  The male hangs around outside, chasing everyone away until the young emerge.  I have had more than one guarding more than one hole.  I have never been stung or even had one land upon me and yet I work all around their nest(that doesn't mean other species will not sting you).  You need to find out where are the nests, fill the holes and paint/varnish over the board or they will come back every year.  I tolerated them in my garden shed and now I need to replace a few boards that they have made swiss cheese out of.  The outside guard does not land or enter the nest.  You can only guess about where it is by finding the middle of its flying area.  They especially like to go up first then in to protect the nest from the weather.  I have not measured the deepest nests but they are at least 3 or 4 inches in a cedar 2X4.  They prefer cedar or redwood by will accept weathered pine or fir.  If you find the nest just squirt some glue in the hole.
