I have a chance to go on a hot air balloon ride but I'm worried it'll 'pop'. How safe is it?

apparently 50% of all hot air balloons pop at some time. My friend went in one and it popped. Her parachute popped too! I wouldn't do it, as popping is a real risk

It won't pop. It is pretty safe on a windless day. The biggest danger of hot air balloons is landing somewhere dangerous, like in the ocean or on a freeway.

There are no directional controls in a hot air balloon. It is moved by the wind. The pilot can move up or down by changing the temperature of the air in the balloon. Often, they can steer by finding an altitude where the wind in traveling in the direction you want to go. But, occasionally, you end up in the middle of nowhere.

But, people do this all the time and bad things only happen a tiny fraction of the time. Maybe 1 in 10000.

I went when i was in cali a couple years ago. it was an experience. totally awsome. i felt completly safe the whole time. go. have fun. its a once in a life time experience!!!!

There is no way it can pop unless there is a MAJOR accident. which is VERY RARE!

hot air balloons are very safe, because they are made of weather resistant, heat resistant and very durable material. just dont jump off the side.

very very safe i went on one in alberquerqe usa it was something i would not have missed it for anything .how safe is it going out you could get run over by a bus.1000`s of people go to this festival every year  just to ride the balloons . hope this answers your question just go for it and enjoy you`ll want to do it again
