  2. Italy has a lot to offer. You can go north and explore Milan, Verona, Padua, Venice and than go south to Rome, Pisa, Florence and the beautiful Amalfi Coast. I hope this site will give you even more ideas.

  3. Florence and Rome are full of historical sites, museums and churches. Be sure to visit the Vatican, the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain.

  4. Try to visit Rome for sure.

The tourist attractions can genrally be divided into three areas.

The ruins such as the Forum, the Colisseum and The Capitoline are contaianed in one area.  The Pantheon is nearby.

The Vatican, known in Italy as "Vaticano", is situated a short distance from the downtown core.  In it you can visit St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums, containing the Sistine Chapel.  You should book at least half a day to go through the museum.

The downtown core features a lot of piazzas (or squares), some interesting architecture and a lot of fountians.  You will want to include a visit to the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain for sure.

A visit to Florence will put you in the heart of Tuscany.  In Florence, the Ponte Vecchio and the Palazzo Vecchio are interesting.  The Duomo, otherwise known as the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, with its huge dome designed by the architect Brunelleschi, is very visible, because the center of Florence is not very big.  Next to it is the Baptistry,, which has bronze doors designed by Ghiberti and Pisano, which are of interest to visitors to the  city.  nearby, and difficult to miss, is the Campanile, or bell tower designed by Giotto.  The Uffizi and Pitti palaces are worth visiting, and and are open as art galleries which display a large number of Renaissance paintings.  The Accademia Gallery contains the Michelangelo's Statue of David and some of his other sculptures.  It is a very popular tourist attraction.  The Piazza della Signoria offers a nice view of ssculptures out in the open.  The Church of San Lorenzo, also designed by Brunellschi is another building to view.  The church of Santa Croce, built in 1294, contains frescoes by Giotto and the tombs of Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Galileo and the musician Rossini.

Pisa is about a two hour day trip from Florence.  In Pisa you can see the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which you may be able to climb for a view of the city.  The cathedral and baptistry situated on the same grounds are attractive pieces of architecture.

Sienna and Assisi are two other towns in the Tuscany region, which you should try to see if you have the time, because of their rustic nature.  They are much smaller than Florence.

Venice would be the fourth most recommnded place to see, after, Rome, Florence and Pisa.  A trip down the Grand Canal and a view of the Cathedral of San Marco and the Piazzo are popul;ar with tourists.  The Rialto Bridge is hard to miss.  Also see the Palace of the Doges and the Bridge of Sighs.

Also visit Pompei and the ruins of the volcano, situated nearby.

If you have time, you might want to take in Milan and the northern lakes, including Lake Como.

Try to see at least four main places.
