How could one separate sand from a mixture of charcoal, sand, sugar, and water?

  1. you could pour it through a filter (like one little kids use to play in the sand at the beach) and the water, sand and sugar will go through leaving the charcoal out.

    then stir up the remaining mixture, and the sugar will eventually dissolve into the water, the sand wont.

    pour out the sugar water and you are left with your sand
