  1. Dont worry i think you're not the only one that's afraid to loose.Remember it's just a game, and not the end of the world if you loose. Life goes on.

  2. Its better to be overconfident than nervous.  So practice memorizing your openings, end game, etc... but take the day off before so your mind isn't confused with all that theory on the day of the tourney.  A cluttered mind will cause you to overlook the important traps etc...

    Good luck!

  3. You should practice alot

But each game is different, so it may not help that much.

But try to act confident even if ur not. It will send the other

team a vibe that ur not scared of them

    Good Luck

    I hope you win.

  4. read some strategy books for chess, as this will give you more confidence and help you relax a little. good luck. Nothing wrong with confidence - just don't be complacent!

  5. that's normal especially for something liek chess it takes alot out of you mentally i think you should get lot's of sleep as well as some in between mediation[this just means focusing no trance like state involves] you also might want to taper[relax and lay off hard work] so you feel calm and serene going into competition, best of luck to you!

  6. I don't play chess, but I am a tournament scrabble player.

It is perfectly naturally to feel some anxiety, especially if it is your first tournament.

My advice, try to relax and to remember you a playing a game, probably one you love.

Concentrate on having fun, and try not to stress too much about winning or losing.  After all, except for a draw, someone loses in every game.

If you are truly overconfident, you will get the message soon enough, but don't worry about that too much either. Try to learn from your errors and from your opponents' brilliance.

Deep breathing between your games may help you focus, too.

I also recommend moving around a bit between rounds if at all possible. I like to step outside for a short break if I can.

Good luck and have a great time!

  7. chess is g*y

  8. Assuming it is a US swiss, avoid sugar.  Seriously, the crash in round 3 of a four round Swiss is not to be laughed at

  9. just relax, take your time before you move and don't forget to hit your clock

  10. Practise
