Here is how the directions on the back goes:

Prepare paste of 100g of onions and 120g tomatoes.

Blanch, peel and grind almonds with 1/4 cup of water into a paste.

Heat 50g of oil in pan, cook chicken with onion paste for 10 min.

Add tomatoes, almond paste, and 1 packet of masala mix. Add 10 oz of water. Cook for 15 min. and serve with 1tsp of cream.

My question is how much is 100g of onion, 120g of tomatoes, and 50g of oil? Also, would you use heavy cream, coconut milk, or yogurt to finish the dish?

  1. ok here is a much easier way to make the chicken tikka masala.

    the directions they have on the back of these things are way more involved than what they have to be. i take some yogurt - add the masala and add pieces of chicken to this. make sure the chicken is well coated and stick all this in the fridge for a couple hours.

    Once the flavors have steeped together, fry up some sliced onions till carmelized and add the yogurt, masala and chicken mix straight to the pot with the onions. it will cook together to be amazing- there will be a gravy when you start the cooking. I like to let some gravy thicken up before taking it off the heat though.

    i dont use anything but fresh chopped cilantro to finish the dish.

    enjoy!

  2. Here, keep this link for the future so you can convert everything.

    .

  3. 50g = 2 ozs or 0.11 lbs

    100g = 3.5 ozs or 0.25 lbs

    120g = 4 ozs or 0.26 lbs

    You can use either cream or yogurt to finish the dish.  You can use coconut milk if you want but generally coconut milk is used in South Indian curries, it will add a little sweetness to the the dish.  But I would use either cream or yogurt for chicken tikka masala.

  4. I'd use about 1/2 cup each on the tomatoes and onions and about 3 tablespoons of oil. (Remember,  since you're converting from a weight measurement to a physical measurement, things of a different density don't convert the same.)

    As for the cream, any of the things you mention would work, no one thing is more traditional than another.  Everyone does it different so use whichever sounds best to you.

  5. 100 g of onion = 1 cup chop onion

    120 g of toma = 1 medium tomato chop

      50 g of oil      =  1/4 cup of oil

    use yogurt to be authentic

    I do recommend if your going to cook by weight to buy a scale.
