  1. That would be a last resort, as the front seat is not a safe place for children under 13 years old. But you absolutely can not use a lap belt with a booster seat. In fact, lap belts are not safe for anyone to sit in. They can only be used to install car seats. So, you need to find a harnessed seat to use for the child or I would not let him ride in that vehicle. Its just not worth it.

Options to use with a booster in a lap belt are the Ride Safer Travel Vest and the 86Y vest. But both require a top tether which could pose a problem if the vehicle is really old. If its '80s or later it should work, but only until the child is 65lbs or so, I think. Another option is a Britax Regent, would keep the child harnessed longer than other seat. harnesses to80lbs and has 20" top slots.

There's several links below to this exact problem being answered by the experts - car seat techs.

  2. Find a seat with a 5 point harness that he still fits in.

There are also 2 vests that can be worn with lap belts.  The Ride Safer Travel Vest is one.

  3. get a new car

  4. I would put the child in the rear seat in the middle since that is the safest place and check out this site as well............

  5. yes. a car that old will not have front airbags.

put the seat as far away from the windscreen as possible.

always keep them in the correct seat for their age and weight.
