  1. Ask for a "special waiver", the military has got waivers for everything.

  2. The answer is "maybe".  Contrary to popular belief the military does not have a waiver for everything like it did in years past.  One of the most stringent areas in today's military is the "morals" section. (ie law violations).  Also, contrary to popular belief you have to disclose any and all law violations that you had even if they occurred when you were a juvenile, or have been sealed or expunged.   You legal background is considered a matter or national security and when your background investigation is done for a security clearance it will be found and you will be promptly kicked out for not disclosing that information.

Now, to answer your question I said "maybe" because it depends on what the violation was for.  The military rates different violations into different categories.  For example in the branch I recruit for we have 5 categories.  Cat 1 and you will never ever get in.  Cat 2-5 we can request a waiver.  As long as the powers that be feel relatively sure that you aren't a career criminal they might grant you a waiver.  Then again maybe not.  A waiver is asking permission to join even after you have been deemed disqualified.  You are asking the powers that be to "waive" your disqualified status and allow you to enter anyways.

Best thing to do is talk to a Navy recruiter and ask them about the violation.  Before you go talk to them though I would suggest that you do a lot of research before hand.  The best place I have seen so far on the web is www.usmilitary.about.com   Check it out and go from there

    Good Luck!

  3. Robbo K is INCORRECT!  nothing is ACTUALLY removed from ones record.  Once OPM does a background check, ANYTHING you have been charged with comes back regardless of if it was dismissed or "purged".  With very few exceptions, if all you have is ONE misdemeanor and your obligation to the court is complete...all fines paid, community service done, etc....that should not pose a problem for you to enlist.  depending on the charge, and how it was adjudicated, will depend on if you need a waiver and what level that waiver needs to be approved at.

Provided that is all you have, you should have no problem at least from a "moral" standpoint on enlisting....

You still need to be physically and mentally qualified but morally you should be fine!

    Good Luck

  4. i would talk to a recruiter but im sure you can. the military has a waiver for jsut about anything. i know a guy that got in with a felony drug charge. but depending on your charges if you can get a waiver, they might not give you much of a security clearance and thats goin to determine what kind of jobs youll be able to get. if you really want to go in the army and they dont offer you something you want, take what they offer you, go in for 2 yrs and after that theyll give you a better

clearance as long as youve kept your nose clean

ed ski is right, even if its been dissmissed it doesnt matter the army will pull it up and make you do a waiver form for it

  5. If you have served your sentence and paid any fines arising from the misdemeanour then you do not have to declare it. You may also ask for

it to be removed from your records. There is no reason you cannot join the Navy once all misemeanours have been purged.
