  1. Have you recently applied any nitrogen fertilizer to your roses?  If so, it could be that the concentration was enough to make your roses abort their blooms and go into vegetative growth.  While you may not be pleased with the results this year, it will pay off next year.

If not, then it could just be the year that we are having.  I know that a lot of the flowers in my garden are acting odd this year.

  2. Some roses flower in flushes, so can have a magnificent display, and then concentrate on other types of growth.  As the bug killer may have stressed your rose,  it may just be growing this way as a result of this.

As roses are shallow rooted,  ensure that it gets a good amount of water and preferably add a mulch to the top of the soil, as this will retain moisture as well as release nutrients slowly.  If you add Potassium to your plant, which is the nutrient required for plants to flower, it will also encourage it to rebloom.  This can be added in the form of Sulphate of Potash which is Potassium Sulphate.  You can get this from most nurseries etc.

With good feeding, watering and enough Potassium it should be flowering later this summer.

Hope this helps.  Good luck!  Rob
