I have a compaq presario pc, and I need to get a Ethernet so that I can get DSL on it, where can I buy one? ?

and can I put this in myself if so, how?? any site that has a step by step? It has windows ME Thanks oh and is it a ethernet adapter that I need or what?

  1. Your PC is indeed dreadfully old; my circa-1996 Macintosh has built in Ethernet.

    What you need is a 10/100 Ethernet PCI card. You can buy them for about ten dollars online or most independent computer stores, though they're getting hard to find. Just open up your computers case, fit the board into the PCI slot, and install the card's driver. Nothing more to it; this is terribly easy. If you need help, the card may come with some instructions, but if not, just Google a guide on installing PCI cards.

    Note that not every card works with ME. If you're not sure, look for something that says Realtek 8139 because that's a known and working quantity. Most independant computer shops have about ten of those cards, all used pulls, all different brands.
