It says it cannot read the system disk, I change the IDE cable, and that is not the problem, I get the single beep when it starts up so It is not anything wrong with the motherboard, and stuff. it is formated in FAT32, running windows XP SP2, what do you think is wrong with it? It randomly crashed.

  1. Go to Windows Recovery Console (it's on your Windows XP installation CD; just boot from that and select the recovery option when it appears) and run CHKDSK from the command prompt to find and fix any disk errors.

  2. You have tried all the logical steps so far so the next thing to do is try the drive in another system. If the drive does the same thing in another system then the drive format is not any good. If the problem goes away in the other system then the problem is at the original system. That would bring you to the cable and other related hardware

  3. First enter BIOS F2 or Del or something

Check if it detects your Harddisk correctly if it is listed then it is ok

If it is not your harddisk probably failed

Only way is to get a new one

If it is list it is probably due to your FAT32 formating it is error prone

Recover your data by attaching it to another PC

and reinstall Windows XP using NTFS formating
