I went in for an ultrasound 5 days ago and they found a corpus luteal cyst on my right ovary that measured 4 cm. My nurse said that if it wasn't shrunk by day 3 of my cycle that I can;t take Femara this month for ovulation. I started my period today and go for a ultrasound tomorrow, do you think it could have shrunk enough by then?

  1. It could have shrunk enough for you to do treatments.  So stay positive on that.  However don't be totally bummed if you can't.  After our 1st cycle of treatments I had a large cyst (can't remember the size) and had to take a full cycle of birth control pills to shrink it before being able to do the 2nd cycle of treatments.  It is also normal for small cysts to be present on the ovaries at all times and they usually will go on with the treatments.  I had a very small cyst before one treatment cycle and they said it would be fine.  Best wishes!!

  2. Yes, it could have shrunk by now.  Corpus luteum cysts are usually temporary and go away on their own.  The cyst itself helps produce progesterone which prevents period from happening.  Since your period has started, that means progesterone hormone has dropped, so hopefully the cyst is gone or significantly shrunk.

    Good luck.
