Will the old style k**b and tube wires pass an inspection? If I hook a 3 wired cable to the k**b and tubes 2 wires will it pass even though a ground is not connected to anything since it is hard to find old cable that only has 2 wires?

  1. It depends on where you are and if it has to be inspected.

  2. The currrent NEC requires that all K&T  systems be inspected by a qualified contractor. The insulation used on the wiring is now brittle due to age and has become an extreme fire danger. Most insurance companies require the K&T to be removed and replaced with current code specified wiring. The "grandfather clause" may be in your area, but it is now very, very dangerous to rely on the K&T in older homes.  Also not connecting the grund wire in romex to a proper electrical ground could prove fatal to an occupant.  At this stage of the life of the wiring, it should be removed and replaced with romex, and the whole system upgraded to current codes.  It is not worth your life to delay the project.
