Please don't feel offended by what I'm going to ask.. my friend and I were just chatting during lunch, and the topic came up.

1. What would you do if you accidentally hit an animal with your car?

2. If your friend was dying, and for whatever reason the only way to save them was to feed your pet to them, would you?

That's basically it. Thanks for all of your answers!

  1. 1) I don't have a car at the moment but if I ever did hit an animal, I would take it to the vet.

    2) What a ridiculous question. No I wouldn't, I'd rather feed them my arm than feed them a member of my family.

  2. 1. I'd probably pull over and cry.

    2. Yes, I would. My cat is a terror. She scratches and bites ALL the time.

LOL. I'm kidding. About feeding my cat to someone, not about her behaviour.

I would want to explore many other options before having to do that. Besides, who wants to eat a bad kitty? She's spoiled rotten (to the core)!

  3. 1. Exactly the same as anyone else would do if they accidentally hit an animal - why would what a vegan does be different? I don't think many people eat animals they  hit

    2. The situation would never arise - there are no terminal illnesses  that can be cured by eating  a 13 year old cat

  4. 1. I would cry. I love animals. I would make my mom pull over (I don't drive) and I would probably freak out. I might yell at my mom. I would make sure it wasn't alive (because if it was I would get help immediately). I would call animal control to pick it. :'(

    2. No. I love my dog. It would never happen, anyway.

  5. 1) I would feel really really bad. I would probably cry if I hit animal. Because I would feel so guilty. I would see what I can do to keep the animal a alive in a good conditoin. Example if it was dog I would take it to the vets and have it looked at. If the dog was homeless I would keep it and love it.

    2) my pets are my family. So no I can allow my family member to die to save anyoone.

Would you kill your family member to save your friend? - exactly!

  6. Well, if I hit an animal, I'd cry if I was vegan or not, and I'd feel awful about it.

My friend could rot in a hole. They aren't getting my kitty.

    :-D

No offense taken by those questions

  7. 1. What can I do? I'd probably freak out and feel bad, and I'd pull over and see if it's okay - I've seen people hit deer and just keep driving while the animal fell, bleeding, to the ground (still alive, mind you). The least they could do was call Animal Control or some one else to come pick the poor thing up. *sigh* Honestly I barely ever drive and when I do I'm way too  careful... if someone can ride over an animal and not notice they'd do the same to a toddler, seriously, how can someone not see a duck or raccoon dart into the street? *rolls eyes* Then again I've probably walked over or driven over animals (insects mainly) anyway. The point is, I've reduced my contribution to animal suffering, there's no way to completely eliminate all my contribution to it but it's better than being a quitter and doing nothing at all.

    2. My friend would be out of luck because I don't have any pets. Also, I'd want a second opinion from whatever doctor told me that sort of nonsense.

  8. im not vegan...but heres wat id do

1- Take it to the nearest vet, when i found out it was dead id start crying ='[

    2- Depends what friend...

  9. 1.  Like any other normal person. I'd move it from the road

    2.  Not even worth answering because it wouldn't happen

  10. Thanks for being respectful in your question... but remember that every vegan/vegetarian is different; they don't all live according to the exact same "laws" (even if some of them act like it's an exclusive "club" and try to make up "rules").  What I would do may be different from other vegetarians.

1.)  What the normal person would do.  I'd feel sad.  But I would see it as what it was-- an accident, and I wouldn't let myself feel too guilty for it.  Accidents happen, and there was nothing I could have done to prevent it.  If the animal was dead, I would call animal control to remove it.  If it was still alive but obviously going to die, I would put it out of its misery.  If it was still alive and was injured but seemed to have a fighting chance... depends whether it was wild or domestic.  A domestic animal, I would take it to the vet.  (Actually, my mom once ran over a stray cat, and we took her to the vet (broken leg and hernia), nursed her back to health, and kept her-- she's the best cat ever.)  A wild animal, I would consult the vet about what to do.  Sometimes for wild animals, it is the kindest not to try to nurse them back to health-- they are WILD and will only be terrified and stressed out around humans (may not heal).  I'd ask the vet's opinion on whether it would be better to try to "fix up" the wild animal or put it down.

2.)  I would feed the animal to my friend.  I believe that human lives ARE worth more than animal lives.  If there was a human that would starve unless I killed the animal, I would definitely kill the animal.  (I just choose not to kill animals now because, in real life, that hypothetical situation doesn't happen.  There are plenty of non-animal food sources, and I and others can be perfectly healthy eating them.)

  11. 1.I would check to see if it was alive. If it was living I would call someone with more experiance with animals. If it was not living I wold move it off of the road and put it in a ditch, and feel bad for the next 3 months.

2.My pets are my friend. But if it was a human, probably not...

  12. 1. If I hit an animal with my car I would feel terrible and (a) would take the body  (if dead & if I could) and bury it. If however (b) the animal was alive and in terminal pain I would kill him/her out of mercy. (c) If the animal was going to live (so far as I would know), I would take them to an emergence vet. If it where a human animal I would in the occurrence of (a) drive off to save my skin, (b) reluctantly drive off again in fear off prosecution and (c) take them to the hospital.

    2. I would never let my friend eat my little Mimn (shih-tzu), her life is more important to my than any people I know and I don't like to use a metephorical meterstick to judge others in terms of having a "right to live". I believe you are justified in killing to save your own life whether the person you kill is a human or a hedgehog. Likewise I would feel no anger or disgust to a creature who killed me for survival.
