he has 300 acers of an old farm, im not sure if it is even being farmed anymore, and he says that nobody has hunted it in about 10 years which means there is a good chance that there is a couple of good bucks on it because of the low pressure. but in general it this a known area for B&C bucks? im from North Carolina and know nothing of the area. i know that Missouri has some good whitetails, but i wasn't sure about this area in the state. thanks for the help

  1. Yes, Caldwell County is a nice area for larger bucks. (pssst, can I go too???) But, if the area is untouched for that long, you may have to work a bit to get the larger bucks in there and KEEP them there, that's the trick. Food plots, mineral supplies, good water source and cover, that's what the deers look for.

BTW, I'm not a horn hunter, I much prefer to put a doe or two in the freezer and I've passed on two really nice 8 points doing that. It's always amazing to me to see the racks on some from that area, but I'm like the other poster, take the larger ones from the gene pool and guess what's left? I have nothing at all against someone looking for a nice trophy, please don't take it that way.

I'm also in Central Missouri, there was a friend of mine who brought back a 19 point buck from just north of that area 2 years ago.

  2. swing up by va its not far out the way -pick me up and we'll have a look ha-ha

    yep should be great

  3. Hey! Can i go to? Just kidding... Yeah should be great! One way of knowing is by looking up the release permits on how may game license the state gives out for that aria. I'm in NY, so if a location as a big population the state give out more permits...

  4. Sounds good. But don't run around there touching things on an unused farm leaving human scent, if you want the best hunting. Consider letting the "Best of Breed" breed. Or your grandkids might inherit deer herds with small rack genetics. I pick out mature bucks with the worst racks for meat. Regards, Larry.

  5. I'd say it should be...but I'm already in MO so you should take me with you
