Question:

I have a craftsman riding lawnmower model# 917.270810. While replacing the spark plugs i stripped the threads.

I stripped the threads on the right side clyinder (engine is a briggs and stratton 19.5Hp V-twin) The spark plug will go most of the way in and tighten before it starts to go loose again. I pulled the head and the threads look good for the most part. How can i chase remaining good threads and what tools will i need? I dont want to get a new head or use an insert.

You may as well get used to the idea that you'll need to use an insert  (helicoil).  They're easy to install and they work pretty well.  Since you have the head off, it'll be easy to judge the depth....you don't want the helicoil extending beyond the surface of the head or you'll be in danger of causing severe damage.      ( piston ramming protruding insert:)

Save yourself from further problems,...install the insert and be done with it.

Go to the automotive store and buy a tube of instant thread maker. You put it on the plug and install it in the engine and wait till it drys. I think the name of it is make-a-thread or something like that. Other than that you may need to get a helicoil from the automotive store.

you might be able to re tap the threads all you will need is to find out the thread size if you have a thread gage or take it to the local auto parts house and they can tell you and get the right size tap and re thread the hole just make sure you clean out the shavings
