umm, gray market camera?  I don't know, maybe it has a touch screen?  Can you take a picture through the screen?

Seriously, this should be clearly spelled out on the manual, but of course, you've lost it somehow? Happens to me most of  the time... gets entangled w/ newspapers and gets disposed too.
