  1. just like other people, not only Filipinos, may be offended if you're too frank...

  2. i like straight forward to the point.not going around the bush.i don't consider that hostile.

  3. I think not.  If the tone and volume of your voice is normal I don't see how Filipinos would deem it hostile.  Unless you give them the impression you are.

We understand how foreigners talk: fast, sometimes mis-understood or incoherent but we never think them hostile.  The next time you give one of your direct, straight to the point speeches include a smile or end it with a smile.

  4. There is a thin line between being straightforward and being rude. You can be frank without being rude or peppering sarcasm on your words.

  5. i definitely think some will.

  6. Meet a nice filipino family or friends of some & keep your mouth shut.  You'll start to fit in more comfortably so they can accept you.  If your accepted you say what you want & began to speak more like they do.

  7. yes, all people are offended in some way, but with a higher level of tolerance as compared to westerners. Filipinos are compassionate , understanding and easy to forgive in nature.

  8. We tend to sugarcoat our statements and try to have an indirect approach when we think the other party is sensitive to the topic or he's just plain sensitive.

It is in our culture to "feel what the other person is feeling". It has a deeper meaning than empathy or sympathy. We don't want to make other people feel bad because we don't want to feel bad too in case we are in his shoes.

However, if you want to be frank, I suggest you talk to the person privately. He'd appreciate that. Still, there is no assurance that he will hold no grudges against you. If you've already established enough trust and emotional connection (or friendship), then perhaps your comments will be taken lightly.

  9. It is hard to generalize but that depends on many factors.

    Such as:

How it was said, the tone, the timbre, the volume, etc.

In what context, it is out of the blue, it is as a response to something.

It also depends on the speaker,

How you look, your facial expression, your body language.

And biases also comes into play here.

And it also depends on the hearers,

    In their mood

    Time of the day

    Time of the month

or if they have been exposed to people who say it as it is.

But in the end as in everywhere else, the rule is, if you do not have anything good to say, it is best not to say it. Unless you are prepared for any violent reaction. People are people everywhere else, some things you just cannot predict.

  10. It would depend on how you deliver what you say...

some might be offended, some may not, and some might be able to expand their patience...

depends on who you would talk to / what kind of person you would talk to...

what can I say? Filipinos have different personalities...

and like they say, You can never please everyone.

  11. probably some will but some will not...in fact most are aware that a foreigner will be possessing different traits as they're from other culture...
