I'm 29 years old and I live in Australia. Both my parents were born in Calabria and I have dual citizenship.

If I was to buy property in there or in Italy in general, would it be a VERY long process. What would I need to produce to do this?

Many thanks,

Adriana

  1. Hi, I live in Italy but I really don't know the answer.  Taormina is a very touristy area so it probably won't be cheap.  I think the best thing to do is ask this question on Yahoo Answers.  Someone who works in real-estate might be able to help you.   Ciao.

  2. Very Expensive. You can probably get a nice villa far off from town for a reasonably price. But buying a home is hard, there's so much bureaucracy and legal head aches. If you or your parents speak italian then that will be a big help. Also taxes will eat you alive. Good Luck.

  3. That's depend of what is your budget. Normally in the North and Centre prices are high, especially in the tourist areas. South Italy is less expensive. Many people chooses to buy an old farm and then to restore it. However for a family sized villa an average price is between 200.000 and 400.000 Euros. But I repeat, you could be lucky, or not so demanding,  finding a low cost villa priced near 150.000 Euros. Sure you can buy a property, supervising that is not a plot of land with agricultural destination. Then you have to project a house and showing it to referred authorities. To have their visas you have to wait 2 or 3 months until a year for villages and towns having much projects to verify. All information you can read on the 'Piano Regolatore' (a ruling plan to set a territory, every town over a number of inhabitants has one). This plan you can buy in the village or town or city you choose to build your house, at the 'Municipio' (town hall), referring with the 'Ufficio Tecnico' (the technical section for everything concerning the 'Piano Regolatore'). Even if you buy a property with a house yet, you have always to refer to the 'Municipio' to get all documents of possession and eventually restoring works. Hope this help, ciao.
