  1. No primer needed if going from black to black.  Just make sure you sand that shine down, very important!!  You should be able to find and off-the-shelf flat black at your local paint store.

AVOID THE BOXES!!  Support your local paint store!

BTW...flat black will be fine for aesthetic purposes, but if this is a functional dresser, the gloss will be more durable.

  2. First, scuff the finish with 000 steel wool or 220 sandpaper.  Then apply a tinted primer, then paint with a flat or satin paint.  2 coats will most likely be necessary.  Hope this helps.

  3. Yes.First sand it as much as you can.Prime it with oil based primer, using a sponge roller or a roller with a small nap( use brush where necessary).Leave for at least a day, this allows the primer to set on good.Use latex flat paint again with a sponge roller or small nap roller.Do 2 coats hours apart or even a day apart for better cohesion.Recommendation, use Benjamin Moore Ulti Matte collection paint. It's flat and washable.Costs a little more but worth it.

  4. You can get a deglosser in the paint department and wipe the furniture down. Follow the directions and then spray with a flat black spray paint. You DO NOT need to prime.
