Question:

I have a fear of bear traps.?

I'm thinking of going camping (the real way, no campgrounds), but I'm scared of hunting gear that people may have left in the wilderness. Mostly, bear traps are other kinds of traps that hunters use to kill animals. I am now scared to walk in the wilderness, fearing I might lose my leg. Is there any way to help me get over this fear? I really want to have a good time with my family, without worrying of losing my leg.

  1. well i think you would feel much safer walking in front of the line with a thick tree branch or walking stick so if there was a bear trap it would get the stick, not anybodys leg. there may be bear traps, if it's the real wilderness. i haven't been camping in my life.

not sure how to get over your fear, sorry. just some advice.

  2. Bear traps are and have been illegal for decades. Since at least the 1940's. Hunters don't use traps anymore. They use bait. This is better off asked in the hunting section. But they might give you some harsh talking for being so uneducated. And it wouldn't chop off your leg. It would probably break your leg and there would be blood if the trap has teeth but like I said illegal and parks service does look for these if they have been found in the past. Your getting worked up over nothing.

You are now suffering from a phobia. Hunters don't use traps, they usually bait or are extremely patient. You also know very little of modern hunting. The result is to get a clean and quick a kill as possible to not make the animal go through any uneccesary suffering.
