I haven't been on a plane in 10 or so years and I have to be on a plane in a week. I'm afraid of the pressure from the height. If the pilot will "accidently alomost land on another plane" I've heard stories. If there will be some problem with the plane and it will crash. The stories that I keep hearing have been piling up into a giant mass of fear and I want to act sane when I leave for florida next week. I am a worrier to begin with so I worry about everything. Can anyone tell me how long I will be on the plane to florida from southern michigan? Can anyone help me overcome this fear quickly? Thank you.

  1. just keep calm and breath slowly try sleeping thru it

most accidents happen on take off and landing so thats the only time it really pays to be worryed i used to be worryed about flying to but you get over it after you have done it so often trust me youll be fine youll be on a big expensive plane those rarely crash

now private jets on the other hand thats a different story

the plane ride will take two and a half hours

    bring a book

  2. Although accidents do happen from time-to-time, planes are among the safest mode of transportation around.

Assuming you aren't pregnant and do not have special medical needs, you can take Dramamine (which dramatically reduces motion sickness while helping you sleep) or other over-the-counter medication to ease your travel. Talk to your doctor for alternatives.

Otherwise, just relax, put on your favorite music.

  3. I've never flown, and I'm terrified, try not to worry so much, bring music, books and things to relax you. Good luck.

  4. Hi Kelsey,

I recently got over my fear of flying as well.  Just remember that you're always going to hear stories but that doesn't mean that your flying experience will become one.  Pilots who fly commercial airlines are highly trained and many have flown for the military at one point.  Also, when you hear about planes crashing, a lot of times it has to do with small 5-seater planes or a problem with the weather.  The airlines are EXTREMELY good at checking the weather before flight.  And if they feel that it is unsafe to fly, they'll cancel the flight.  They also check for warnings or malfunctions in the engine or if they need to replace a part and will have it fixed before they leave the airport.

If it helps, try propping your feet on your bag or something in front of your seat during take off.  You're going to feel the plane shake (if you're going through clouds) or your stomach drop shortly after take off.  You may even want to hold your breath a little at a time if your stomach is feeling a little funny during take off.  That's just the plane leveling itself from an upward position and the landing gears folding back into their place.

Remember that turbulence is a natural part of flying.  Just because the plane shakes or bounces up and down, it doesn't mean that it's going to crash.  It simply means that you're flying over beautiful hills and mountains which create air pockets which rise upwards, causing the plane to shake.  Like everything in life, there's no other way to get through turbulence but to ride it out.  You're going to have a great trip.  I usually pray and imagine angels lifting up all ends of the plane and gently placing me back on the ground of my destination city.  I really hope that you'll be able to enjoy the ride as well as the beauty of the different states that you fly through.  Take care!

  5. It meant help if you think about how much fun you're going to ,this will take you're mind off the fact you're in a plane. If someone is with you, talk to them about things you'll be seeing they. A friend of my had the same problem I  told her the same thing "she had a great time" you will too.

  6. Studies have found that millions of people have a fear of flying, despite the enormous odds against a mishap. There are several ways to conquer your fears and make air travel more endurable.

    Things You’ll Need:

    Yellow Pages

    Headphones

    Stress Relief Products

    Portable CD Players

    Relaxation Tapes

    Telephones

    Therapists

1Accept that it is unlikely you can conquer your fear of flying without help.

Step2Get counseling or join a group. Since fear of flying is such a common phobia, many excellent clinics are available to help you. Look in the yellow pages under 'Clinics,' 'Mental Health Services' or 'Psychologists.'

Step3Read a book. Countless books are devoted to overcoming the fear of flying. Most include instructions on special breathing and relaxation methods and other helpful techniques.

Step4Buy a tape. Some fear-of-flying programs are on tape so you can listen to instructions for relaxation and breathing.

Step5Have confidence that you can succeed. Even the most serious fears about flying can be conquered with proper treatment and hard work.

Step6Ask your physician for a prescription drug to relax you when you must fly, if all else fails. Keep in mind, however, that most professionals believe you can conquer this fear without medication.

    Hope this really helps :]

flying can be really fun when you think about it :]
