I was arrested 6 yrs ago in Panama City (on spring break) for Grand Theft Auto (I drove a shuttle bus 50ft down a parking lot!). I was givin 5 yrs probation. I live in Wisconsin. I broke my probation in '05 for tresspassing (I was sitting at the school across the street from my house at 4am). My probation was supposed to be concluded in Sept. of '07. at that time, I received a letter from my P.O. that I have to comeback to Florida and face the judge. I have already turned myself in (May) and was givin a signature bond. I have already gone to the first court date. I have put close to $6000 into this already in the last couple months (lawyer fees, flights, hotels, etc.). Now the Judge wants to give me 22 month's in Jail! What would happen if I didn't go down for the second court appearence? Would Panama City pay for police to come get me and fly back to Florida?

  1. don't grow up what ever you do, and fight the power, go underground and when get on your tail hide out in Mexico good luck and god bless

  2. This will depend on how bad the judge wants you back in Florida.  Most states have an area (3 to 4 state radius, for example) that they will extradite people from.  If you can check with your P.O., maybe you can get him to cough up what that area is.  Good luck.

  3. Yes--they'll probably come for you.  Maybe now you have grown up and can get this behind you for good.

  4. They will get you there one way or another. Your cost of transportation can be charged to you also. If you force them to come after you, 22 months will be the "short" part of your sentence by the time they are done. Start with inter-state flight to avoid prosecution.

  5. you can run, but you can't hide....

  6. eventually. yes.

  7. They won't come after you but if you get stopped for something else like atraffic violation and they run you for warrants-it will come up-then you will be in jail w no bail until it gets straightened out. Get a lawyer and see if you can straighten it out long distance

  8. Panama City will not proactively come get you.  If you are contacted by WI law enforcement, a warrant will show up and detail the extradition.  I most incidents I have come across, there are not too many extraditable warrants unless the offense is quite serious, not saying auto theft isn't.  However, this will be hanging over you head until you get it taken care of.  Man up.

  9. Your best move would be to contact a law enforcment agency in Florida, and find out what the "normal" extradition limits are on the class of crime your charged with.  They can vary, but are usually always the same.  If it was a high class felony, your best bet is Alaska or Hawaii.  Most juristictions will not authorize extradition beyond the 48 contiguous states, unless it is a capital crime (or equivalent class).  Most extradition limitations are measured in miles (i.e., 500 miles from x*x,FL).

  10. No, the U.S Marshall's might come get you though, Grand Theft Auto is a pretty big offense.  But most likely they will ask for your extraction.

  11. It's possible that Florida will ask for your extradition.  It depends on how serious the judge is.  (If he DOES ask for your extradition...you will have additional charges added on.)
