My Parrotlet, Peawea is in a 19"x19"x??"

She has a smaller 14"x16"x(18")??"

I want her in the smaller cage. She comes out for her daily fly 'rounds, and come Christmas time, I will have her in a bigger cage... what should I do?

  2. The smallest recommended cage for a parrotlet is 18 x 18 inches with bar spacing that is no wider than 1/2 inch, mid-bar to mid-bar.  With most of the parrotlet species, the larger the cage the better.  The exception would be for some Green Rumps that are overwhelmed by a very large cage.

Each of my parrotlets live in (separate) 21 x 32 x 32h cages and they both enjoy them tremendously.

As for the beak underbite, you should have her checked by an avian vet.  At the least he or she will want to trim and reshape the beak, hopefully to correct the underbite.  Overgrown beaks aren't common in parrotlets with the exception of some Green Rumps.  Your vet may want to check for any underlying health reasons for the abnormal beak growth/shape.

    Good luck!
