1. Do chickens make weird/loud noises when they are laying eggs?

- I just checked for eggs and one was in a roosting box and it was cawing VERY loudly.

2. Why am I only getting 2-3 eggs a day? I have 6 chickens, and they are all at the appropriate age to start laying.

3.Will my chickens always peck me? I go out many times a day, pick them up and pet them, and two of them have been walking over to me, but when i pet them they sometimes peck me. Will they always do this?

  1. Yes, they do make loud noises, and they have a fed just for laying hens at the feed store so they well make more eggs. And after awhile the chickens should stop pecking you.

  2. 1.) Yes, they do cackle quite loud after that lay an egg. Is there egss in the nesting box? If there is it could be going setting as well. They make a noise when they go setting to warn you to stay away. SOme hens when they go setting can be very agressive, which is a good and bad thing. If you try to get the chicks they may flog(attack) you just protecting the babies but its great to keep preditors at bay.

2.) Well, it could be that they are not in the mood. If you have some, some could be roosters. All chickens are different even if there the same breed or noot. They can lay at 5 months or longer.

3.) It really depends, if you hit them or tease them they will not bite. Butr in some cases, roos will attack, its there nature and they protect there gals. SOme do if they are setting ot broody. I dont know why they would peck. Unless you have freckles, they sometimes peck at them. Or if there roos. SOme people can say that there hens but mistaken and there roos.

  3. yes they do!!!! yes probally!!!

  4. They are warning you to stay away.

Each chicken at appropriate age should give one egg per day.

Do not disturb them but once a day.  Pick a time of day and go out each day about the same time.  The are not pets nor do the make good pets.

You going out to often can make them nervous is the only word I can think of and they will cease to lay eggs.
