Question:

I have a few Math Questions?

Please say and explain your answer for these three math problems... I got them wrong and need to know how to solve them again just so I know how for the future.

1- Arrange the digits 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 to make the greatest product. (three numbers times two. Example, 567 x 98)

2- A clock has only one hand (the hour hand) and it is on the 28 minute mark. What time is it? (I really need to know how you got this one)

3- Look for a pattern and find the values of x and y.

a + 45 = 101

b + 445 = 1001

c + 4445 = 10001

d + 44445 = 100001

x + y = 100000001

(I got the answer for this one I just couldn't describe the pattern.)

  1. 1. 98 x 765 - not sure how to explain this, I just used my math intuition but I'm not good enough at number theory to come up with a proof.

    2. 5:36

You know the hour because it's in between 5 and 6. As for the minutes, you know that the hour hand moves from the 5 to the 6 at a constant rate. Between the 5 and the 6 there are 5 "minutes," and you've gone through three of them. That is, 3/5 of the hour must've passed since the clock hit 5:00. So, 3/5 of one hour is 60 x 3/5 = 36 minutes. Hence 5:36

    3. The number of 4s is the number of 0s in between the 1s. So you know y is 44444445. As for x, look at the rest of the expressions. Subtract 44445 from 1000001, say, and you get d = 55556. x must follow that pattern too. x = 5555555g, y = 44444445
