  1. Yes, it's free. In fact it's part of the open source initiative. The only thing that costs is if you choose to buy a CD with Firefox on it. Firefox 3 has also fixed the memory leak that plagued Firefox 2, so it will not slow down your computer any more than a program like Notepad would. However it seems to have traded stability for the memory leak. FF3 is known to crash at random times. When I say crash that means it simply freezes itself or quits, leaving the rest of your system unharmed. As for spyware and viruses. Just follow proper behavior when dealing with spyware and viruses. Spyware and viruses are just as much a threat in Firefox as they are with any internet connected program like BitTorrent and IE7. Common sense when encountering spyware and viruses is what's needed. Don't click on attachments, don't click on popups, don't run/launch software from suspect or unknown websites. Today's internet browsers do provide measures however, to prevent popups and malicious code from being executed on your computer. Firefox 3 in particular prevents you from surfing to known malicious websites. You can also add features to block popups and ads with AdBlockPlus.

  2. Firefox 3 is absolutely free. Free as in you don't have to pay, and free as in you're free to do anything you want with it. It will not get any badware on your computer, and is much faster than Internet Explorer. It will not slow down your computer at all.

  3. Yes it's free and it doesn't come with spyware or viruses. It will not slow down you computer at all.

With so much bad technology around these days (like the PS3) you might as well get the good stuff for free.

  4. I have just got Firefox and yes, it is free to download. Firefox does not put any spyware on your computer but if you use Firefox as your hompage you will time to time need to do updates. FireFox shouldn't slow down your computer.

    I hope this helps!

  5. Free: Yes

    Spyware/viruses: No

    Slow down: No

Its definately one of the best browsers and is much quicker and safer than Internet Explorer.

    A definate must.

  6. Slowdown, maybe.  There's  at least one addon that has a memory leak (I haven't figured out which one yet).  But closing it and reopening Firefox fixes that (temporarily).  It takes hours to notice, but I never close Firefox (or turn my computers off), so I see it about twice a day.

Otherwise - Firefox is the best browser out there right now.  (Opera is just a trifle more W3C-compliant, but I'll give that up for all the benefits I get from Firefox.)

  7. yes, firefox is free, but dont get it, it is soooo slow, if you want an internet browser other than internet exploer, than check out this link, its the web browser that macs use from apple, its free, and its 10x faster than anything ive ever used.

  8. It is absolutely free to download i assure you. You will not get any viruses - 100% sure - i have it myself and i know other people who downloaded it and it is virus free. It will not slow down your computer any more than the previous version.

If you have the older firefox version go to Help (upper left corner) and click Check for updates. It will contact the official Mozilla server and download it for you.

If not just download it from here http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ .
