I caught a moth...she ended up being pregnant. I kept her in a container...she laid about 60-70 eggs. I accidently dropped the container partially open and the mother got away.

1. Is 60-70 eggs normal, or was she not done?

2. Did the eggs get fertilized before the laying or do they still need to be fertilized?

3. What do I need to do for the eggs

  1. Keep them very safe, in some flower bed, not too warm, not too cold: a few of them will survive! (60 to 70, normal! just read somewhere that 1,42,000 varieties of moths have been discovered so far: some more, a few thousands, may be discovered in the years ahead! that might be interesting snippet (obiter dicta) for the project on moths! wish you flying colours with the colourful project!)

  2. if she wasnt done, she will go and lay the rest somewhere else so u dont have 2 worry about that. i think that yes they would already be fertilised so u dont have 2 worry about that either. so im assuming u want to keep the eggs until they hatch? well u can either keep them in the container u have them in and put leaves and stuff in with them and then watch them hatch and grow or u can move them outside on to a tree and let nature take its course

  3. Stop playing with moths and get a life

  4. If you are trying to get rid of them I would suggest moth balls, sprays and anything you can find at a local store.  During the day, open up the windows, spray everywhere and leave the house for few hours.  You may need to do it several days in a row. In the meantime put mothballs in closets and corners (they like dark warm places.) I also bought little sticks that you can hang up all over, ask at the store about those.  You must be doing this every day and be persistent, they spread around quickly and the new ones will soon be reproducing as well.  Some kinds can actually damage your clothes.
