First of all, thank you so much for opening your hearts and your homes to kids from all over the world coming to celebrate WYD. I'm going to be in Australia for three weeks in July. I was just wondering - any recommendations for what I should be packing? I'll be in Sydney, Bathurst, and Cairns. I've been told the weather can get warm , and it can get really cold. And is there anything American that I can bring to share with you? You are doing so much for us, is there anything we can do in return?

  1. Welcome to Aus.

Cairns is at the top of Australia in the tropics so weather there is warm - hot all year round. I would be packing Jeans and T-shirts. You may wish to pack swimmers and shorts or a skirt but your shouldnt be too hot in jeans. Its early - mid 20s in Cairns at the moment.

Sydney have pretty mild to cool weather, the days you will be comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt but I would always carry a hoody just in case. Nights will be colder and you will defintly need a jumper then. I would pack jeans and some other pants, t-shirts, jumpers 2 or 3, a jacket (not a snow jacket doesnt get that cold) and even a jacket in case it rains.

Bathurst is inland and very cold at night, you will definitly need winter pjs and maybe even some bed socks. Again jumpers, jackets, jeans, etc.

    List of what to pack

    - Jeans (or other pants, 3+)

    - T-shirts (short and long sleeve 5+)

    - Jumpers 3-4

    - Jacket

    - Rain jacket

    - Runners

    - Sufficient underwear

    - PJs (think spring - winter)

    - Swimmers (optional)

    - Comfy shoes

    - Sunglasses

Just bring yourself, a smile, a good sense of humour, and be ready for a good time.

  2. I'll have a jug of Tabasco Chipotle Sauce please,,,I cant get it here !

  3. money

  4. In July (middle of Aust winter), Cairns is warm during the day, coolish at night. No parka or overcoat needed up here, perhaps just a light jacket.

    Cheers.

  5. Okay just got off the phone with my sister-in-law who lives just outside Bathurst and she reckons you will definitely need VERY WARM CLOTHES for there in july. Sydney won't be as bad but can still get very cold at night but the days should be okay unless it's raining. Cairns is pretty good most of the year. Don't forget to bring good sunglasses and a hat. The only other thing to bring is a good attitude and a smile and have a good time.

  6. Was out near Bathurst last weekend and even though the weather station said it would be cold it got a litlle warm. Considering you are also going up north i recommend alot of layers. Like t-shirts to wear under jumpers. The weather is average during the day, jeans and long sleeve t-shirt, but at night it can get really cold.

About presents I am not too sure. Maybe just stories and photos from where you live. I personally find those more interesting than American chocolates.

Hope you have a top time!!
