Right well im 16 at the moment, and thinking about buying a scooter when i start work and save some money..

So by time i get 1 i'll be 17, So can i ride a 100cc Scooter at 17? And can i get it de-ristricted at 17?

And do i need to take extra tests or is everything else the same as 50cc scooters..

Roughly how fast does a 100cc scooter go in MPH, When de-ristricted would it be something like 60-80 MPH?

Thanks!

  1. When  you get old enough look at Kymco Scooters they will run the pants of the ones listed above and have a warranty and will be there with dealer support.

  2. You can ride a 100cc at 17. Only mopeds (i,e 50cc or under) are restricted.

You only need to take the CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) test to validate your provisional licence to ride with L plates.

The top speed of 100cc scooters varies greatly. For example a Piaggio zip 100cc has a 4-stroke engine and  does about 45 - 50 MPH with slow acceleration. on the other hand a Pegeuot Speedfight 100cc has a sporty 2-stroke engine and will do about 60 MPH top speed. This size of engine is not restricted but the power can be increased by tuning the engine, the first step is normally a sports exhaust and upjetting the carburretor.

Remember that anything you do to your engine will comprimise reliability and invalidate any warranty. Also it increases fuel consumption and you need to inform your insurers and your insurance premium will rise.

    Hope this helps :D
