can i put the heater underneath the filter at the bottom of the bowl? i heard the filter will create sufficient oxygen & there's no need for an air pump.

  1. under *gravel filters are just air pumps... but yes, that will be fine.

bettas are fine in bowls as long as temp is kept in the right range and the water is kept clean. however, as said above goldfish should never be in a bowl!

understand, even with an under gravel filter you'll still need to do water changes. 20% once a week (taking the water from under the rock and filter to remove the build up of p**p and food. an air hose should work to suck it out). and if the that isn't enough (test your water once every week) try doing a 100% water change once a month or so. bowls aren't very stable so 100% water changes are needed, even with a filter sometimes.

  2. yes but I hope you don't have a goldfish in a bowl or any fish really not even a betta they need to be in at least a 3 gallon tank but yes you can get an underwater filter like this: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js... which are much cheaper than undergravel filter like this: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...
