  1. Malawi Fish ARE very territorial but you actually need to 'overstock'  your tank.

Any Alpha male fish will chase weaker fish, the emptier the tank is means one fish may get targetted and will be chased and attacked to it's death for just venturing into the alpha males territory, with an overtstocked tank, the alpha males will still chase the fish but won't just target one fish as it won't be able to keep 'all' other fish from going into it's territory so they will chase them all off but won't single one out.

My boyfriend has a common plec and 2 catfish in with his malawi's and he hasn't had any bother with them.

  2. Mike has a very valid point to an extent.  In order to do any figuring on what you might be able to add, you need to list all your species in there.  There are certain groups of both Malawi Mbuna as well as Haps that simply don't tolerate each other very well, and some groups are prey/predators of each other too.  It's impossible to give any accurate input without knowing exactly what you have in that tank now.  It would also be helpful if you listed your PH GH and KH readings as well.  Not all African species prefer or do well in the typical higher Ph GH set ups.

I'd love to help, but noone can give you valid input without knowing what species are in that tank, sorry.  And NO offense intended here, if you don't know what you have, you shouldn't have gotten those fish.

  3. you could get some water frogs catfish

  4. personally i think you have too many fish already in that size tank (90 us gallons) the malawi are very territorial and need their own space.
