I have a five year old son who just started kindergarden 8weeks ago and is not doing good he was in preschool?

for three years and never had a problam. now he just keeps to his self which is not like him. he says the teacher is mean to him and that she says he is bad. it's so bad that i want to take him out of school. so does anyone know how old you have to be to be in kindergarden in missouri? can i take him out of school and home school him?

First set up a meeting with the teacher and your son and let him listen and have an input on the meeting.  It might mean that the work is too difficult there are a lot more expectations in kindergarten and he might be missing the extra choice time.  Talk to the teacher first, sometimes I see the children try to blame the teacher for their lack of effort.  I know this for a fact as a teacher of grades 2-5 for ten years.

You certinally can home school him but isn't there a different option like confronting the teacher? I feel bad for the little guy. Hes probibly got a bad teacher.

Ask permission to attend 1-2 lessons in your son's kindergarten. You will be able to see what is wrong...

Although, it can be a teacher's fault, usually the problem is with the child who does not want to grow up and accept the responsibilities for his learning. If it is the case, as sooner you help him to go over that barrier as better...

If a child encounters real life earlier, it is easier for him to adapt to the situation. From the other side, older children have stronger nervous systems....

You as a parent have to make right decision. You can keep your child at home, but you have to help him to grow up psychologically.

According to the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA), compulsory school age in the state of Missouri is 7 which means your son is not required to be in school until he is 7 years of age.  The above link also gives you information on how to legally home school in your state.

I remember in the first grade i had the same problem. the teacher was sooo mean she swore at me and called me irrisponsible. a first grader or a kindergardener does not need to be treated that way. maby you should just have him change schools so he can still see other kids.

I too live in Missouri.  I know several families who home school there children.  It sounds to me the problem is with the teacher.  #1 she should not be telling him he is bad. That is too much negitivity. #2 you as a parent are allowed to visit the classroom and observe. My child is 6 and in the first grade.  He has Down Syndrome and is doing well .  He has had behavioral issues but we are  getting them under controll. One thing I have found out is that we have to fight for our kids. If he did not have issues prior to  this year I would have a metting with the teacher first, then if things still did not work , request a meeting with the principal and the superindendent.  I have found children do need socialization. The bad thing about that is they learn the bad with the good.   I am afraid if things don't get better soon , that you may have problems down the road .  He may never like school . One thing you may want to consider is having him evaluated .  Has his ears & eyes been checked. Researchers and theratist have found children with hearing and sight problems can develope behavioral issues because they can't  hear or see well. Speach can be another factor.  I can go on forever on this subject because I have done an enormous amount of research and my son has been in therapy since he was 3 months old. Not for behavioral issues. But really your son is dependent upon you to make decisions for him now which will effect his future.  Go with your gut feeling .   Our gut is usually right.  Good Luck .
