Personally I'd recommend having someone that plays the flute teach you--like a band member or director or something!

    Good luck!!!

  4. HI JA.    Good for you for wanting to try and play the flute.   I am going to tell you that just picking it up and trying to play is almost impossible....   It is not that difficult to get the hang of it... but you do have to have just a bit of instruction.    I suggest that  you  look around and find a flute teacher.  Maybe you don't want to take lessons for years and years...  not suggesting that..  But if you could just take about 6 lessons, enough so you can be taught how to blow correctly and which books to get that the teacher uses with her beginner students.     This is what is going to give you the start you need.   A teacher will begin you on the first and easiest of the notes and fingerings and the book will most likely have a fingering chart.   It is a win-win.   You can look for a teacher on the site craigslist.org in your city... or check with the local music stores.  Even some of the colleges have students who are trying to make extra money by taking on a few new students.    Give that a try... I think you will be satisfied at the results of what just a few lessons will have.  Thanks for reading.   Happy Tooting.
