  1. A few corrections to the last poster, whose summary was very good:

    1. CFL coaches now do have challenges.

    2. A single point is scored in the CFL not just for a missed field goal but any 'touchback' (in NFL terms) that results off a kicked ball. This can be a punt too.

    3. Note as well that the fact that a missed field goal produces a live ball is unique to Canadian football.

    4. Out-of-bounds rules are more lenient in Canadian football. A receiver can land with one feet out of bounds and the catch is still made.

Note that both these games evolved separately from the same 'parent'. The changes are organic – it's not like the CFL modified American football. (e.g. the Canadian field is rugby-sized, but Harvard didn't have a big enough field, so they went to 100 yards). For a greater explanation of the differences, check out this Wikipedia link:

  2. You know what i find hilarious???

Rather than just post the new question in the correct category, you decided to place another question on how to fix the other question.

    Classic...

  3. NFL

    - field size : 100 yards by 53 1/3 yards with 10 yard end zones

    - field goal posts at back of end zone

    - 4 downs

    - three time outs per half and coaches challenges

    - 30 second play clock

    - two minute intermission between all quarters

    - sudden death overtime (first team to score wins)

    - 11 players on field

    - 2 point conversions taken from 3 yard line

    CFL

    - field size: 110 yards by 65 yards with 20 yard end zones

    - field goal posts at front of end zone

    - 3 downs

    - one time out per half. no coach challenges

    - 20 second play clock

    - three minute intermission between second and fourth quarters

    - two ten minute periods settle overtime

    - 12 players (extra slot back on offense, or linebacker on defense)

    - 2 point conversions taken from 5 yard line

*Special CFL rule: on a missed field goal, if the defense fails to get the ball out of the end zone, the kicking team is awarded a point*

*Generally, NFL players are a lot bigger and stronger, whereas CFL players are smaller and faster.*
