Went to check my credit score and it states I can not access my credit . There is a freeze on my credit reporting information. What does this mean and why is it there? Why would someone authorize it for me?

  1. What it means is that no one can open new accounts without your permission.

As far as why it's there that's a great question because legally the only person that can authorize freezing your credit is you.

I would contact the three credit bureaus A.S.A.P. and find out what's going on.

  2. You are the only person who can put a freeze on your credit report.

A credit freeze is a tool available to people here in US where they can block their credit report so that it becomes really hard for the identity thefts to get new credit and open new accounts by your identity. When you have set the status freeze on your account, no one even you cannot open an account by your name. Even the creditors, lenders and employers will not have access to your credit files. There are some benefits as well as freezing down your credit report:

Something is wrong here, contact your state attorney generals office and report it.

And if somone did steal your information, putting a freeze on your report would do them no good, they couldn't get any credit either.

    Hope this answers your question
