  1. You should be thankful for the internet is flat-rate (AOL used to charge for so much for each hour!)--so IM / e-mail / voice over away after she is gone.

Meanwhile, you will meet other people. You will make new friends.. then... that five years from now, your friendship with this young lady may fade--she will change, and so will you. So when she turns eighteen, she may not be the object of your affection any longer. So regardless of how strongly you feel about her now, do keep that in mind.

The other answer is correct--you will not have that much influence on where she will want to live.

  2. The best thing for you to do is to keep in contact -- by e-mail, especially.

People usually change from their early to late teens too, so don't be surprised that the girl you once knew will mature and change in ways you are not used to seeing.  (By the time your lady friend is 18, she may be more interested in a job or going to college than she would be cultivating a former friendship.  And you might be the same way.)
