I have a friend who went to the USA in 1987.he overstayed his visa by 6 months?

He went back in 1998 on the visa waiver program and got in no problem he is now going back this year and is applying for holiday visa,could there be a problem because he used the VWP,any help thanks

The only help I could possibly suggest is for you to ask him if you two are still friends.

If he never overstayed on the VWP, he can use it again.

The visa he used to overstay in 1987 has expired.

If he has a new visa, he can apply for admission using a new visa.

I don't see a problem (yet) with the information you provided.
